World traveler wraps up Town Hall lecture series

Allan Karl has quite the repertoire.

Not only is he a global traveler, he’s also a photographer, philosopher, author, adventurer, entrepreneur and motivational speaker. On May 1, he will be in North Platte rounding out the Town Hall Lecture Series season.

According to a biography on Karl from Keppler Speakers, Karl inspires people to pursue dreams, overcome challenges, tackle obstacles and smile in the face of adversity.

“I really think he’s going to be entertaining,” said Malinda Paloucek, publicity co-chairwoman for the THLS. “I think he’s going to have some great stories about the places he’s been and the people he’s met.”

np-telegraph-worldtraveler-townhall-webKarl draws on the experiences he had during a three-year motorcycle trip around the world, which took him, among other places, to 43 United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations.

At one point, while traveling along muddy roads at 14,000-feet in the Andes mountains in Bolivia, Karl broke his leg in three places.

It wasn’t enough to end his journey. Following a lengthy and painful recovery period, he continued for another 62,000 miles, riding across five continents and 35 countries.

Karl wrote about his adventures in the book “From the Boardroom to Bolivia and Beyond.” He is also planning to publish a cookbook featuring some of the foods he encountered during his journey.

“To truly understand different cultures means getting to know the people and the food they eat,” said Karl.

He is currently the principal of clearcloud, ctc, a technology and communications services consulting firm. It’s the second business he’s started.

The first was Wirestone, one of the nation’s top 50 interactive ad agencies, whose customers include Apple, AT&T, Hewlett-Packard and Quest Software.

His presentation will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the North Platte Community Playhouse. Admission is a $60 membership to the lecture series. Memberships can be purchased through Betty Guynan at 530-8448.
